Celebrating 250 Years of Independence Through Art
Two hundred and fifty years. It's hard to wrap my mind around that number.
This Independence Day marks the 250th anniversary of our nation's journey—a milestone that reminds us not only of where we've been, but also of how much we've grown, struggled, and persevered together.
As an artist, I've always believed that history isn't just found in books. It's painted on old barns, carved into weathered monuments, stitched into handmade quilts, and reflected in the faces of everyday people. Every brushstroke has the power to preserve a story, capture a moment, or spark a conversation.
When I think about independence, I don't just think about fireworks and parades. I think about freedom to create. Freedom to express ideas. Freedom to dream. Those are gifts that artists often take for granted, but they're worth celebrating every single day.
Art has documented our country's history from the very beginning. Paintings have captured battles and victories. Sculptures have honored heroes. Murals have told the stories of communities. Photographs have preserved moments that changed our nation forever. Even today, artists continue adding their own chapters to America's story.
I also love that art reminds us that patriotism doesn't have to look the same for everyone. Sometimes it's a majestic landscape that showcases the beauty of our country. Sometimes it's a portrait of someone who served. Sometimes it's a painting of a small-town main street or a field of bluebonnets blowing in the Texas wind. Every piece tells a different story, and together those stories create a beautiful picture of who we are.
As we celebrate 250 years of independence, I hope we also celebrate creativity, kindness, resilience, and the people who continue building our communities every day. The American story is still being written, and every one of us has the opportunity to leave our own mark.
For me, that mark comes through paint.
Whether you're spending the holiday with family, watching fireworks, grilling in the backyard, or simply taking a quiet moment to reflect, I hope you find inspiration in the beauty around you. Sometimes the simplest moments become the ones worth remembering—and maybe even worth painting.
Thank you for supporting artists like me and for allowing my work to become a small part of your homes and your stories.
Happy 250th Anniversary of American Independence, and Happy Independence Day!
